In career mode, whenever you have an invitational event, the game doesn't let you spend resource points after the race because they skip directly to the next weekend. There should be an option for you to go back to the main screen after the event and then going to the next week after. Sometimes, you only have enough resource points to spend after the race, and it's not good having to wait an additional week for that.
