I've mentioned before about how car performance needs an update to closer reflect the season as well as give teams a chance to develop to the front so I've done a quick chart to show how I think each team should start by default in Season 1 Round 1. This is just an opinion of course. Marvel at my paint skills:

I only covered powertrain seperately as I think that's where the biggest issue is when developing a team. A fully upgraded Mclaren Honda powertrain is only slightly better than a default non-upgraded Renault. Never comes close to Ferrari or Mercedes. They should certainly be last but I think on par with Sauber's year old Ferrari engine at the very least. Then each powertrain should be brought closer together so that again, a player can focus on a Honda powertrain for example and make it the best one.
I only included powertrain as I feel that's the only one that needs to be shown whereas chassis and aero could stay very similar and just be rebalanced slightly alongside the powertrain changes to give us this overall performance shown.
Again, bring all teams closer together so that there's potential to bring any team to the front with enough work. The biggest changes that are needed are again, Mclaren, who all season have been in the midfield fight (Alonso was battling for points in the opening three rounds before DNF afterall) so I don't understand why they've been put so far back. 9th definitely but they should be pretty much equal to Haas and Toro Rosso. That would mean on the chassis dependant tracks like Monaco and Hungary then Mclaren would be ahead of them both but power tracks they'd be behind. Sauber should then be upgraded to reduce the gap back between them but obviously they should still be last. The other big change would obviously be Williams. Why they're 4th at the moment confuses me greatly since they've been barely 5th/6th from the very start. They should just be slightly ahead of Toro Rosso/Haas/Mclaren and Force India should be in a more comfortable 4th. Finally, bring all 6 of those teams forward to near Red Bull is now and then bring Red Bull slightly closer to Merc and Ferrari and leave them two where they are now.

I 'm assuming there will be a car performance patch at some point so I hope it follows along these lines at least. At the moment, it's near impossible to bring any team to the front because the gaps are too big and the AI can develop just as fast as the player (with no differences in upgrade gains by team this compounds the issue). The R&D is great this year so I hope it doesn't go to waste because of a lack of a performance patch.
