Racing Line

Hello fellow racers,

So with F1 2017 just around the corner. I decided for myself that I wanna start off the game and drive completely without the racing line.
I've used it throughout F1 2016 mainly because I am just terribly slow without it.
It's not that I can't remember braking points, as in, it takes me only 1 or 2 laps to not go off track anymore and a few more laps to really know where to hit the breaks.
But for some reason, I am terribly slow. Maybe I am braking too much, maybe I take the corners too carefully.
When I try to race without the racing line, I keep trying to remember what it was like WITH the racing line, so I know where to brake, and where to speed up again.
But that makes me just realize I can't really drive without it.
I know it's terrible, you may even call me a noob if you like :p but the fact remains that I am easily 3 to 5 seconds slower without the racing line. And I can't seem to get any faster.

I really want to just be able to drive F1 2017 without the racing line, because it feels more realistic and would probably make me a better driver in the end.
However, I don't have crazy amounts of time to play the game due to work. So I can't put in a lot of hours to practice.
In F1 2016 I kept turning the racing line back on, because I wasn't having fun without it. And in the end that's why I play the game, to have fun and enjoy it.
I simply get frustrated knowing I could be seconds faster, because I am reasonably fast with the racing line turned on. Even though I don't always completely follow it, it gives me that reference point to return to.

So what I would like to ask is if you have any tips and words of advice.
I know, there's the simple: "Just turn it off and keep it turned off".
But I would actually like to know how some of you went from racing with it turned on, to turning it off and eventually becoming as fast without it as you were before with it turned on.

Thanks in advance.
