After completing the tire wear test on all the tracks, I thought I'd put my $0.02 in for what I think the tire wear test should be like.
So, the whole point of the tire wear test is to gather data on how long the tires can last and the game can come up with a strategy for the race.
The problem?
On some tracks, you are changing your driving style - sometimes drastically - just to keep the data in the green/purple.
This translates into a race strategy that is not ideal for your driving style. This is most apparent on China and sector 3 in Spain where my tire wear is horrible just for me to keep up with race pace. If I wear to drive like I was in the tire wear test, I'd be back of the field.
But if I wear to drive like I normally do in the test, we would get only 5 points and not get any resource points.
It's almost like driving aggressively is punishing you. But driving aggressively is STILL collecting data for engineers so why should we be punished? Some tracks are just more heavy degradation.
My suggestion to change the tire wear test is pretty simple:
- You can drive conservatively (just like it is now) and you can meet the delta and collect points
- You can drive aggressively, the wear marker will be in the red but the delta time is harder to beat. If you do beat the delta, you will get the resource points.
I can imagine putting something like this in the game would be pretty hard cause it would have to differentiate between driving conservatively and driving aggressively or maybe it could be a selection you choose before going out on track.
On China (some tracks are bad too but it's mainly China), I have to completely dismiss the strategy the engineers give me because I can't make the required laps on the tires and they'll have me pitting with one lap to go because degradation is too bad.
